About Trout Conservation
This is a Sea lamprey
Trout is a popular game fish among anglers. But due to overfishing, habitat loss, invassive species, and climate change. Their numbers have been drastically lowered. Unless we take action now to restore trout habitats and increase their populations. It is most likely that trout will be eliminated from areas of the U.S ("TU: climate change" NP). Trout conservation is essential for the trouts survival. We are the ones that brought:
Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS)
Invasive species are non-native species that threaten native species, said Trout Unlimited (Aquatic Invasive Species np). These invasive species threaten native species by consuming the native species or their food supply. They are like a disease, they spread and become very, very difficult to stop. "in some states there are more invasive species then native species" (Aquatic np). The asian carp which was introduced to the great lakes. Eats more than its daily weight every day is effecting our salmon and brown trout populations. Or the Sea lamprey which was brought by the ocean shipping ships. which basically goes into a trout streams and latches onto a mature trout and eats the trout slowly. Almost like a vampire like parasite. These along which other invasive species aid in the decline of Michigan's trouts populations.
Over Fishing
If you are a angler like myself than you are well aware of those fishing stories being told by your elders. Those kinds of stories with the five huge trout being caught and eaten. I Know that I have been told "millions" of those stories siting around the campfire. Well all of those five trout plus all of the others have led to the decline of our trout populations to this day. Think of it like this. Its like the gas tank in your car. In this case you are only allowed one tank full per week. So you go to the store with you're friends, go up north, go to a concert, you are having a blast. But then you realize you're tank is bone dry. This is just like what is happening to our trout populations. The coaster brook trouts population flourished until over fishing and habitat destruction said bott from trib.com. (Bott np).
Climate Change
The temperature will rise on average 9 degrees in the next 70 years (Study: Trout face habitat loss in Wyoming, West, np). change is probably the biggest factor affecting trout due to that it is the most uncontrolled factor. "As trout habitat water temperature rises there will only be negative effects on the trout" said Trout Unlimited (climate change np). These trout can't just help themselves, we have to help them by trout conservation methods. "Warmer winters are causing more winter floods that wash away the gravel that holds brook and brown trouts eggs." (Study: Trout face habitat loss in Wyoming, West, np). In the end climate change= rising trout stream temps.= trout population decline.
